A ‘purple patch’ in the first term against Melbourne on Sunday saw Jarrad Grant kick three first-quarter goals in one of his most consistent performances of the season.

Grant kicked three of the Bulldogs eight goals in the first term, and was one of the Dogs’ best afield on the day.

Despite his performance, the forward said he’s simply relishing the opportunity to be in the Dogs’ side at this stage of the season.

“It’s good to get on the board early, had a bit of a purple patch in the first quarter which is always nice to have out there.

“(I’m) just happy to be involved with the team the way it’s going at the moment and just hoping to play my role every week.”

The Dogs free-flowing game was on display for much of the game, kicking 24 goals and notching up their highest score of the season (153 points).

In the last month of football, the Bulldogs have ranked second in the competition - behind the West Coast Eagles - for scores per inside 50m, highlighting the potency of the Club’s dynamic forward mix.

Grant said that playing in the forward line, he was delighting in the delivery from the defence and midfield.

“It’s exciting as a forward the way the ball’s moving this year is very exciting and your eyes open up.

“The skilful players that we’ve got in our team coming off the half-back line and in the midfield makes it a lot easier playing as a forward.”

Despite the high score-line and dominant game, Grant said there are still areas of improvement, after a five-goal to zero third term – the Dees’ way.

“They challenged us in the third quarter and Bevo put it on us to finish the game off strong and I think we kicked 10 goals in the last quarter so whilst it was a large win, we played well for three quarters, we’re going to need four quarters coming up in the near future.”
